Overview

Responsible for training staff on Good Documentation Practices (GDP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), aseptic techniques, basic and advanced laboratory skills, as well as, supporting EHS compliance and risk management within the Atlanta facilities. The EHS representative will monitor and coordinate processes to prevent and eliminate injury and illness to employees and assist the company to comply with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions – Laboratory Training:

  • Develop and implement lectures/training content, competencies using research, collaboration across laboratory departments, and best practice information and guidelines.
  • Provides mock or simulation sessions of training for lab staff and support the internal practice for developing skills in aseptic technique, microbial cell culture, and pipetting techniques.
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors basic aseptic operational techniques such as gowning, media preparation, thaw, passage and harvesting, and overall systems and operations.
  • Follows, executes, and trains others to follow and execute analytical methods, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and implement Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Training on functions and operations of laboratory equipment such as incubators, Laminar Flow Hood (LFH), Biosafety Cabinet (BSC), autoclave, pipette, etc.
  • Maintains competency in microbiology lab-related skills, tasks, responsibilities, workflows, and processes.
  • Assists in the completion of and/or provides oversight to personnel training records, competencies, and other documentation.

Essential Job Functions – Environmental Health and Safety:

  • Assists with mentoring lab supervision with safety investigations.
  • Performs and trains lab supervision to conduct EHS audits and inspections and evaluates recommendations or corrective actions.
  • Utilizes the Gensuite and other software system to track data of incident investigations, area inspections, corrective action management and permit tracking.
  • Compiles and exports data from Gensuite software to prepare graphical analysis for presentations in meetings and quarterly reviews.
  • Coordinates safety meetings with the safety volunteer team and works with management to ensure timely completion of corrective action items.
  • Provides training as needed on all EHS programs and assists in maintaining records within the training software system.
  • Updates an existing spreadsheet to account for additional training items that are developed across EHS programs.
  • Completes standard risk management activities including new chemicals review, new equipment review, and process/space changes review.
  • Assists with development of written programs as needed to clearly define procedures and policy requirements for all EHS program elements.
  • Be able to understand and articulate the business drivers aligned with safety strategy.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Works on routine assignments per written procedures, where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
  • Normally receives minimal instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
  • Works under supervision from supervisor or senior personnel.
  • Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals.
  • Perform job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • May be required to work holidays and weekends.
  • May be required to assist in other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience / Education        

  • High School diploma and over 6 years of relevant experience required.
  • Associates’/Bachelor’s (Life Science) degree is preferred with over 3 years of relevant or equivalent experience.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and Environment and Health Safety program elements.
  • Ability to train others on basic operations and functions of equipment and is able to perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to participate, implement and lead continuous improvement ideas.
  • Ability to record data accurately and legibly.
  • Ability to use judgement as dictated by the complexity of the situation.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and exhibit effective interpersonal skills.
  • Based on work assignment, may be recommended to have vaccination in accordance with the company’s Bloodborne Pathogen Program.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend and to effectively communicate detailed information through verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills.
  • Need to be able to read, write and understand English.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels.
  • Must be able to work in a controlled lab setting where biohazards and chemicals are present.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. gloves, lab coat, safety eyewear, mask).
  • Ability to stand /sit / walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach.
  • Clarity of vision - must have ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions.
  • Ability to climb ladders / stairs.
  • Ability to work in variable temperatures high to freezing.
