Overview

The Senior Chemistry Specialist position involves performing routine and non-routine tasks in a regulated analytical chemistry laboratory environment. Personnel in this role are expected to be able to handle samples, demonstrate proficiency in wet chemistry techniques, perform research and development (R&D) and process improvement activities, and acquire data in instrumentation such as, but not limited to, Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Ion Chromatography (IC), and/or Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). This role requires maintaining laboratory equipment. Additionally, this role includes implementing a functional medical device extraction process with a strong focus on leading complex sample extractions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine analyses to ensure testing of client samples and reporting of results is accomplished in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform job specific tasks in compliance with applicable regulations and SOPs.
  • Perform complex extractions per company practice.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on analytical instruments (e.g. LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, FT-IR).
  • Document procedures, prepares spreadsheets, results summaries, and drafts reports.
  • Ensures testing of client samples and reporting of results is accomplished in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals.
  • May be required to assist with environmental monitoring service questions outside of normal office hours/days.
  • May assist in laboratory scheduling.
  • Support in training staff.
  • Keep laboratory area clean and well organized.
  • May be required to work holidays, overtime, and outside of normal office hours/days.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience / Education

  • Technical assistant in chemistry or university degree in chemistry (MSc/BSc) with a strong background in chemical analysis
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a regulated environment
  • Has demonstrated consistent performance on applicable instruments
  • Extended knowledge of modern chemical analysis

 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 10993-12 and 10993-18
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation preferred
  • Ability to perform moderate to complex mathematical calculations
  • Proven to be self-motivated and has strong initiative skills
  • Detail oriented and independently driven
  • Has strong documentation skills
  • Has demonstrated strong troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient in oral and written communication
  • Need to be able to read, write and understand English, German is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Regulated lab experience preferred
