Responsible to ensure assistance with the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repairs of the mechanical and utility systems associated with the STA San Diego facility. This includes the building HVAC and chiller systems, house vacuum pumps, compressed air system, liquid nitrogen tank and distribution system, electrical system, boiler system, laboratory and Kilo Lab fume hoods, and associated utilities/equipment in the Pilot Plant. This may include assisting with maintenance/repairs as well as working with various external contractors and service providers.
• Facility techs to ensure work is completed correctly and on time.
• Perform minor dry wall, plumbing and building repairs.
• Assist in moving furniture and equipment.
• Performs daily checks of the various mechanical and utility systems associated with the STA San Diego facility.
• Maintains emergency on-call services for the facility and responsible for communication with Security personnel.
• Communicates with Lead Mechanic, Manager and Supervisor (Director of Pilot Plant Operations) and other colleagues to report routine events (i.e. equipment shutdown, impactful maintenance/testing, planned maintenance/calibration, etc.) and exceptional events (i.e. equipment operation issues, equipment out of calibration, etc.).
• Work with contractors and vendors as needed for equipment and facility improvements, maintenance, operational adjustments, calibration, etc.
• Interacts with Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, and Quality groups in an effective manner.
• Order spare parts and necessary repairs/maintenance needed for all facility-related equipment and systems.
• Stay current in training to be competent in cGMP, EH&S, and Facilities procedures.
• Work with Lead Mechanic to maintain maintenance and repairs for facility-related equipment to meet customer and business goals.
• Ensures cGMP compliance of facility-related equipment.
• 2-3 years’ experience in facilities repairs.
• Experience in minor electrical, plumbing and building maintenance.
Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
• Technical Skills / Knowledge: Demonstrate capability to learn maintenance and repair of facility-related mechanical equipment and utility systems. Must be willing to work with and learn building HVAC and chiller systems, vacuum pumps, air compressors, electrical systems, boiler systems, and chemical fume hoods (not exhaustive list).
• Problem Solving: Responsible for providing input on trouble-shooting support for laboratory/Kilo Lab/Pilot Plant utilities/equipment.
• Communication Skills: Effective communication (both oral and written) required to interact with mechanics, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, and Quality to accomplish goals.
• Customary Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent with 2-3 years of relevant experience. Willing to learn and understand cGMP requirements for a facility.
