Facilities Maintenance Technician

Overview

We are looking for a long-term, in-house teammate to join our Facilities team. Responsible to assist with the day-to-day maintenance activities associated with the WuXi AppTec San Diego facility.  This includes assisting with maintenance/repairs as well as working with various external contractors and service providers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures work is completed correctly and on time.
  • Performs day-to-day maintenance activities for our multi-unit facility, including furniture assembly, drywall patching, painting, etc.
  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Repairs and replaces fixtures such as door handles, lighting, faucets, etc.
  • Provides support for additional Facilities tasks such as cleaning, setting up for large parties, etc.
  • Assists in moving furniture and equipment.
  • Works with Lead Facilities Tech to maintain maintenance and repairs for facility-related equipment to meet customer and business goals.
  • Provides input on trouble-shooting maintenance concerns to the Lead Technician.
  • Conducts regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs
  • Maintain accurate record of maintenance activities
  • Communicates with Lead Technician and other colleagues to report routine events (i.e. equipment shutdown, impactful maintenance/testing, planned maintenance/calibration, etc.)
  • Works with contractors and vendors as needed for equipment and facility improvements, maintenance, and operational adjustments.
  • Interacts with HDB Operations, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, and Quality groups in an effective manner.
  • Orders spare parts and necessary repairs/maintenance needed for all facility-related equipment and systems.
  • Stays current in training to be competent in cGMP, EH&S, and Facilities procedures.
  • Complete all facilities related SOP training as required.

Qualifications

Experience / Education  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 1-2 years of job-related experience.
  • Willing to learn and understand cGMP requirements for a facility.

 

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

  • Demonstrate capability to learn maintenance and repair of facility-related mechanical equipment and utility systems. 
  • Basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry skills.
  • Able to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Effective communication (both oral and written) required to interact with mechanics, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, Quality, Operations, and external vendors to accomplish goals.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in Lab setting with exposure to hazardous and biohazardous materials (i.e. Chemicals).
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE (i.e. lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves).
  • Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels
  • Ability to stand/sit/walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to Lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to crouch, kneel, bend, twist, and reach
  • Ability to push/pull 50 lbs routinely/ often
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Ability to climb Ladders/Stairs/Scaffolding
  • Ability to perform rooftop maintenance
  • Ability to work in variable temperatures high to freezing
  • Inside/outside working conditions

 Anticipated salary range: $24.72 to $31.95 hourly
