This position will lead strategic procurement initiatives and create long term cost containment strategies with key suppliers in the chemicals/reagents markets supporting goals and objectives as established by North American Purchasing, Key Functions and Americas Site Operations. This position is also responsible for leading purchasing activities of indirect and direct goods and services at WuXi AppTec’s San Diego site. This role will maintain/improve site purchasing policies, practices and procedures for direct and indirect expenses focusing on "Best Practices" for our industry, provides "subject matter expertise", sourcing and contract negotiation responsibilities.

• Builds and develops a committed site purchasing team and site maintenance team to manage all areas of responsibility as it applies to WuXi AppTec’s San Diego site purchasing.
• Creates and directs the global procurement strategies for specific reagent and chemical category spend. This includes the identification of suppliers for strategic alliances and the understanding of the key cost drivers.
• Develops, establishes, and coordinates RFPs (Requests for Proposals) on our major categories of direct and indirect spending. Invites key/core suppliers to provide solutions and cost proposals for our business requirements, evaluates proposals, makes supplier recommendations, selects suppliers, awards business, and handles contracts for key stakeholders
• Develops and drives cost saving goals for each category on a location and corporate-wide basis through the development and implementation of category strategies.
• Leverages and negotiates pricing on combined volumes of purchases at various locations with industry leading suppliers to reduce the cost of goods and overheads. Prioritizes savings opportunities and takes a unified approach with our various purchasing locations to meet with the potential suppliers and get the lowest possible total cost.
• May support other site departments, such as Maintenance, as needed.

• BA/BS in Business, Finance, Engineering, Procurement or other Operations related field, Graduate Degree in Business Preferred. APICS, CPM, and/or NAPM certificate;
• 5+ years of direct and/or indirect procurement experience; 2+ of experience in procurement area at a managerial level, Global Operations, finance and matrix management experience
• Ability to balance strong negotiation skills and shareholder needs with the need to develop strong relationships with our key suppliers.
• Strong financial skills and ability to market the Global Procurement team to all areas of the organization.
• 10-20 % domestic travel

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
• Proficient Oral & Written communication skills in both English
• Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand /Sit/walk for long periods of time
• Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach
• Ability to travel via plane or train

Anticipated base pay range: $90,011 to $117,197
