Overview

Xenobiotic Laboratories (XBL), a subsidiary of the Lab Testing Division of WuXi AppTec, Inc., is a leading contract research laboratory specializing in small and large molecule Bioanalytical, drug metabolism, and pharmacokinetic services to the pharmaceutical, animal health and agrochemical industries. Xenobiotic Laboratories is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist for the Plainsboro, NJ facility. 

Responsibilities

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing XBL’s EHS program.  S/he will be responsible for monitoring site activities and ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements in a contract research laboratory specializing in providing bioanalytical and metabolism services to the pharmaceutical, biotech, and agrochemical industries.

  • Develop, implement and maintain EHS compliance policies, procedures and plans in accordance with applicable federal, state, local requirements.
  • Develop, implement and maintain regulatory tracking records and compliance documentation required to demonstrate compliance with regulatory permits and standards at federal, state and local levels.
  • Ensure routine reporting, compliance tasks and deadlines are successfully completed, on time.
  • Continuously monitor and review of site operations and staff activities to ensure site operations are conducted in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Develop and implement training to create awareness and understanding of compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to site staff to develop and enhance staff understanding of the EHS regulatory requirements and industry best practices that apply to XBL.
  • Train, coach and work with cross functional leaders and staff to identify emerging issues.
  • Develop work procedures, investigate accidents/near misses, and implement programs to ensure XBL achieves compliance.
  • Develop and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Coordinate with federal, state and local regulatory agencies to remain current and knowledgeable in the regulatory requirements that apply to XBL.
  • Respond to agency information requests. Serve as point of contact and liaison during agency visits and audits

Experience maintaining and managing day to day health, safety, emergency response, environmental compliance and security activities. Previous experience in Biosafety, Environmental Compliance, Safety regulations, Emergency Response and Haz-Mat. Previous experience implementing policies and procedures that are protective of the environment, personnel, equipment and business interests, including the leading of culture change required to embrace those policy and procedure changes. Experience evaluating, providing advice and implementing solutions due to complexities of health, safety, training and industrial hygiene issues

 

Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

  • Ability to work some long hours, work off shifts and off hours, potentially work a Saturday
  • Preferred CIH, CHMM or CSP certification.

Knowledge of such regulations as; CAA, CWA, RCRA, NRC, CDC, NIH, NJDEP and OSHA.

 

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Microbiology is preferred.
