Overview

Participates in the execution of chemical processes for the preparation of raw materials, starting materials, intermediates, and API in the Pilot Plant in compliance with cGMP regulations (as required). Conduct CIP operations of Pilot Plant equipment.  Includes participating on processes in the Kilo Lab suites, which would also involve cleaning of Kilo Lab equipment and suites

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the execution of chemical processes in the Pilot Plant.
  • Assists with preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Pilot Plant.
  • Interacts with Facilities, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Research and Development, EH&S, and Quality groups in an effective manner.
  • As needed, interaction may be required with vendors for Pilot Plant maintenance/repairs.
  • Evaluates current procedures and equipment in the Pilot Plant for continuous improvement.
  • Participates in cGMP compliance of the Pilot Plant and associated equipment, as well as the corresponding production processes and products.
  • Performs routine operations for cleaning, CIP, solution preparation, and charging.
  • As needed, participates in the execution of chemical processes in the Kilo Lab, assists with SOP preparation in the Kilo Lab, and also performs routine Kilo Lab operations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Technical Skills / Knowledge: 

  • Must be able to use and maintain large-scale Pilot Plant equipment and portable Kilo Lab equipment, with sufficient training. 
  • Experience in chemical processing is a plus.

 

Independence/ Accountability: 

  • Must be able to work unsupervised, once properly trained, and along with other operators.

 

Problem Solving:

  • Responsible for aiding in technical and trouble-shooting support for Pilot Plant and Kilo Lab production once properly trained. 

 

Communication Skills: 

  • Effective communication (both oral and written) required to interact with Facilities, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, and Quality to accomplish goals.

 

Customary Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Science/Engineering or a related discipline 
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience would be a plus, but is not required.

 

Physical requirements: 

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and be able to bend, reach, stretch, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces. 
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Must be medically fit to wear a respirator and be comfortable working with, and around, hazardous materials under strict safety protocols.
