Overview

STA Pharmaceutical US LLC. a WuXi AppTec Company, seeks an experienced and highly motivated Process Development Scientist to join its team of scientists in San Diego, California. The candidate will be responsible for Process Development, synthesis, deprotection, and purification of oligonucleotides, with an emphasis on purification techniques, as well as leading scientific teams focused on the optimization of processing and scale up of oligonucleotide synthesis methods.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture oligonucleotides, especially non-routine oligonucleotides, from synthesis to final lyophilzation step
  • Evaluate/utilize laboratory automation and purification techniques for the synthesis of oligo-biomolecules.
  • Optimization and scale up of oligoneucleotide processing methods.
  • Ability to operate and maintain lab instruments such as AKTA synthesizers, purifiers and HPLC and LC-MS.
  • Familiar with pre-clinical and IND enabling phase of the oligoneucleotide therapeutics pipeline in the industry.
  • Collaborate with other functional groups and accept other duties and responsibilities as needed.
  • 3 or more years of direct experience in nucleoside or oligonucleotide chemistry. 
  • Understanding the concepts of cGMP manufacturing for biopharmaceutical products.
  • Experience in scale up and technology transfer of oligonucleotide API processes
  • Experience with the AKTA line of synthesizers
  • Demonstrated success working effectively outside defined scope of responsibility, when required.
  • Have a bias for action and display a sense of urgency.
  • Provide technical and trouble-shooting support to solve chemistry problems.

  • Establish a good working relationship with peers to support and enable the delivery of intermediates/API in a timely fashion.
  • Collate and present results in various forms, such as weekly/monthly reports, technical reports, and oral presentations for internal review and to management.

Qualifications

  • PhD in synthetic organic chemistry/oligonucleotide chemistry or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education (MS, BS) and industry experience.
