Supervisor Animal Care

This position is responsible for organizing, planning and managing the Associate Animal Care, Contract Employees and Lab Aide personnel, systems and resources critical to the daily operation of the department. The Supervisor is also expected to contribute to the workload of the department on an as needed basis.


  • Recommends the hiring, transfer, promotion, discharge and salary changes of the staff
  • Ensure each employee receives appropriate training for duties, and ongoing training of experienced staff
  • Conducts employee reviews and responds to employee issues
  • Coaches and mentors to develop the staff
  • Interacts with internal and external clients and provides a high level of customer service
  • Leadership and/or participation in cross-functional teams
  • Perform job specific tasks in compliance with WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable ISO, GLP, GMP, and FDA guidance documents and their interpretation
  • Assure that detailed documentation, calibration and preventive maintenance programs are in place.
  • Support client, regulatory, and accreditation audits and inspections
  • Investigate and respond to non-conformances and findings in a satisfactory and timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned


Experience / Education

  • AA Degree or equivalent amount of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably within a GLP/GMP environment.
  • Prior experience supervising others preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to use judgment, clear problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and to handle complex problems
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
  • Need to be able to read, write and understand English
  • Proficient in Microsoft (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook)

Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to work in a Lab setting with exposure to animals/biohazards/chemical (list chemicals)
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
  • Must be able to work in environment with minimal noise levels
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Clarity of vision
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to crouch, bend, twist and reach
  • Ability to push/pull 50 lbs. routinely
  • Inside working conditions
