  • Overview

    Responsible for developing platform cell lines for viral vector production, for both adherent and suspension cell culture processes. In addition, this role will establish and lead WuXi ATU’s cell line development capabilities.


    • Develop high yield proprietary cell lines for viral vector production for gene and cell therapy applications.
    • Have oversight and manage external CROs for cell line development activities.
    • Build the cell line development capabilities (team, lab and technologies). Design and optimize the labs and workflows.
    • Collaborate closely with upstream and downstream teams to develop high efficiency platforms for WuXi ATU.
    • Partner with China team as needed.
    • Interface with clients for cell culture work from WuXi ATU cell lines as required.
    • Understand the cell line Intellectual Property landscape in the cell and gene therapy field. Lead IP development for cell line generation.
    • Attend scientific conferences and represent WuXi to potential clients as appropriate.
    • Stay current on technologies to help maintain the organization’s long-term competitive position and profitability.
    • Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required.
    • May be required to work Holidays and weekends
    • May be required to work outside of normal business hours
    • Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals
    • Perform job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Develops, coordinates, and follows organizational systems, policies, procedures, and follows labor and capacity standards
    • Other duties as assigned
    • May be required to assist in other departments


    Experience / Education:

    • More than 10 years of Biopharm / Biotech industry and academic research experience
    • Ph.D. in Science and Engineering Discipline preferred; or combination of relevant Experience & Education

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

    • Successful record of developing cell lines for viral vector production
    • GMP knowledge required
    • Experience in cell culture process development is a plus.
    • Understanding of the Intellectual Property landscape for the field.
    • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking and innovation
    • Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
    • Able to understand and communicate risks, and develop and execute contingency plans
    • Able to connect with all levels in the organization
    • Travel requirement ~5-10%
