  • Overview

    The Product Director is the Leader for the delivery of WuXi’s offering of specific products. A product is defined as the service that WuXi provides for delivery of a finished good to a patient. The products range from a manufacturing process to lot release testing. The Product Director is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of Client specific products and aligning with the assigned Project or Commercial Manager to meet the Client’s goals. The Product Portfolio may also include the development of new offerings, i.e. platforms. The Product Director is the lead of the Product Delivery Team, comprised of Leadership from the departments within WuXi whom support the delivery of the product. The Product Director has an in depth understanding WuXi’s corporate goals and a vision to ensure the execution of the portfolio aligns with those goals.

    Responsibilities

    • Supports the negotiation, development, and standardization of proposals.
    • Maintains regular communication with the Client’s Leaders, whom have active products within the Product Director’s Portfolio.
    • Participates in, and when necessary leads, client meetings including presenting experience and capabilities, as well as facilitating scientific / technical meetings.
    • Participates in Joint Steering Committee and guides the Project or Commercial Manager whom runs the meeting.
    • Partners with Supply Chain and Operations, to ensure appropriate scheduling and delivery of products and to understand capacity constraints.
    • Oversees the transition of clients from the Project Team to the Commercial Team and ensures commercial sustainability.
    • Communicates and forecasts staffing requirements to the Product Delivery Team and the Client Delivery Management Team to ensure milestones are achievable.
    • Informs Project or Commercial Managers on specific Client objectives, commitments and communications.
    • Approves changes in scope, including new work orders and work order amendments, to be issued to the client.
    • Responsible for portfolio performance metrics, and corrective and preventative actions to ensure process improvement goals.
    • Provides portfolio updates to Site Leadership.
    • Solves complex business problems, by navigating the structure, processes and systems at WuXi AppTec.
    • Supports the team in solving complex technical challenges, by navigating the structure, processes and systems at WuXi AppTec.
    • Utilizes business and technical knowledge to identity additional services WuXi can provide to clients and facilitates the development of those services with the Product Management Team.
    • Understands, enforces and provides input into contract and quality agreement terms.
    • Understands WuXi’s business goals and provides guidance within the Product Management Team to maintain alignment with those goals.
    • Performs strategic planning, business planning and development of management processes in context of the product portfolio.
    • Works within WuXi AppTec’s financial system(s) to understand the financial status of the product portfolio as well as maintaining the forecast (3 year rolling) by partnering with Sales.
    • Understands the details on product margins and drives continuous improvements to increase those margins.
    • Collects issues or challenges (lessons learned) which may affect the product portfolio and makes recommendations as to appropriate mitigation of risk, strategies and actions to ensure progress, as well as disseminates the learnings to all affected teams.
    • Works in a team environment and independently as required.
    • May be required to work Holidays and weekends.
    • Drives overall operations for the achievement of departmental and site goals.
    • Sponsors improvements and supports the development of new processes for continuous improvement.
    • Mentors other team members in learning WuXi systems and processes.
    • Provides input into team member annual reviews.
    • Performs job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • May be required to assist in other departments.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Experience / Education

    • 10+ years of relevant experience or equivalent
    • Bachelors’ degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent experience

     

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

    • Ability to accomplish the described duties through the use of appropriate computer equipment and software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and database programs) and general office equipment (i.e. photocopier, fax machine and phone equipment).
    • Ability to use judgment as dictated by complexity of situation.
    • Ability to interpret written instructions and to write form letters and routine correspondence.
    • Ability to record data accurately and legibly.
    • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.
    • Ability to receive, comprehend, and effectively communicate detailed information through verbal and written communication.
    • Need to be able to read, write and understand English
