  • Overview

    The Associate Scientist will help conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis using the appropriate equipment and analytical techniques.  The individual will prepare samples/standards/reagents, perform a variety of analytical tests, troubleshoot, and maintain instruments. 

    Responsibilities

    • Performs routine acquisition and analysis on GCMS and Headspace GCMS, including extractable/leachable testing, identification of unknowns, and writing reports.
    • Performs equipment maintenance and troubleshooting; investigate and facilitate the resolution of any equipment failures.
    • Ensures the testing of client samples and reporting of results is accomplished in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Participate in deviation and laboratory investigations as needed.
    • Thorough understanding and use of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
    • Determine opportunities to increase efficiency and implement process improvements.
    • Participate in various tasks including method development, qualification and validation of analytical methods with assistance.
    • May participate in regulatory compliance activities (i.e. audits and inspections) as well as technical interactions with clients.
    • May assist in training staff.
    • May develop and write protocols and SOPs with assistance.
    • May perform analysis on other instruments, including LCMS and HPLC.
    • May be required to assist with questions on the phone or assist in the lab outside of normal office hours/days.

    Qualifications

    Experience / Education

    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with a BS/BA

     

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

    • GCMS experience required
    • Ability to perform moderate to complex mathematical calculations
    • Proficient chemistry preparation skills
    • GLP/GMP experience
    • Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
    • Need to be able to read, write and understand English
    • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook)
    • Polymer and small molecule experience preferred
    • Method development experience preferred

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to work in a lab setting with exposure to biohazards/hazardous chemicals
    • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
    • Must be able to work in environment with minimal noise levels
    • Ability to stand for long periods of time
    • Clarity of vision
    • Ability to identify and distinguish colors
    • Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
    • Ability to lift 25 lbs occasionally
    • Ability to crouch, bend, twist and reach
    • Inside working conditions
