  • Overview

    This position is responsible for environmental testing of controlled environments and sampling/processing of environmental monitoring samples in compliance with GLP, GMP, GDP, ANSI/AAMI/ISO, EU, and USP standards.


    • Certify biological safety cabinets (BSCs) to NSF/ANSI Standard 49 standards
    • Calibrate ancillary BSC equipment as well as cross train to calibrate laboratory equipment
    • Test high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and support systems in regulated cleanrooms and controlled environments per the FDA’s Aseptic Guidelines, and relevant ISO and US standards
    • Use aseptic techniques to collect, handle, and process pharmaceutical grade water, surface (i.e., contact plates or swabs), ambient air, and compressed air samples for viables and particulates in laboratories and cleanroom environments
    • Proficient in using environmental monitoring test equipment (i.e., Active and passive) for collecting environmental viables and testing for particulates
    • Schedule environmental testing and monitoring projects at client sites
    • Executes environmental monitoring protocols and writes testing reports
    • Review client contracts for accuracy and appropriateness and ensure testing data entries and submissions meet requirements
    • Conduct training for environmental monitoring, sampling, and microbiological testing as needed
    • Works on routine assignments per written procedures, where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required
    • Normally receives minimal instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new assignments
    • Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals
    • Perform job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures
    • May be required to work holidays and weekends
    • May be required to work overtime
    • May be required to travel to client’s site
    • May be required to assist in other departments
    • Other duties as assigned


    Experience / Education

    • NSF/ANSI Standard 49 certified required
    • Certification of Pharmaceutical Cleanrooms preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years of environmental testing and monitoring experience
    • Associate's or higher in environmental science or related field preferred
    • Sound mechanical and electrical aptitude
    • Prior laboratory experience preferred

     Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

    • Calibration knowledge preferred
    • Basic microbiology knowledge preferred
    • Thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices, Good Manufacturing

    Practices, and Good Documentation Practices

    • Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required
    • Proficient in Oral, Written, and Mathematical skills
    • Need to be able to read, write, and understand English
    • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to work in lab setting with exposure to biohazards/chemicals
    • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
    • Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels
    • Ability to stand/sit/walk for long periods of time
    • Ability to lift/push/pull/move 20 lbs. routinely
    • Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach
    • Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
