Senior Toxicologist

Overview

This position is responsible for analysis and interpretation of data to write various toxicological risk assessments, test strategies, gap analysis, or opinion papers while maintaining customer satisfaction by meeting published turnaround times with high degree of quality. This person will provide consulting and have in depth knowledge of toxicology principles such as acute toxicity, carcinogenicity and developmental toxicity and principles of risk and exposure assessment.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Compiles data and performs analysis and interpretation in preparation for toxicological report deliverables.
  • Authors reports pertaining to toxicology studies to support medical device programs.
  • Ensures compliance with standards and guidance.
  • Collaborates as a team with other areas such as biocompatibility, chemistry, and pathology.
  • Independently authors standard to moderately complex toxicological technical documents such as: biocompatibility strategies, toxicological risk assessments, bioevaluations, gap analysis, and publications (e.g. white papers).
  • Works with clients and internal teams to provide responses to regulatory inquiries
  • Performs peer review on toxicological report deliverables.
  • Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Contributes to maintaining and expanding the body of toxicology data held within internal technical databases.
  • Routinely consults with clients via phone or e-mail for incoming inquiries, strategy development, and projects.
  • Independently performs research in a variety of industry recognized databases.
  • Adheres to expected turnaround time to meet client satisfaction.
  • Maintains professional membership(s) and active in associations.
  • Provides technical/scientific mentorship to associate toxicologists and peers.
  • Assists in development of educational materials.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of various factors.
  • Assists with research and writing of publications (e.g. white papers)

Qualifications

Experience / Education

  • PhD in Toxicology or related program with 2-5 years’ experience in toxicology or relevant experience supporting toxicology; DABT optional.
  • MS in a scientific discipline with minimum 7 years’ experience in toxicology or relevant experience supporting toxicology; DABT preferred.
  • BS in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in toxicology or relevant experience supporting toxicology; DABT highly preferred.

 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • In depth knowledge of toxicology principles such as acute toxicity, carcinogenicity and developmental toxicity and principles of risk and exposure assessment
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
  • Need to be able to read, write and understand English
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook)

 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in environment with minimal noise levels
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Clarity of vision
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors
  • Must be able to perform activities with repetitive motions
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to crouch, bend, twist and reach
  • Inside working conditions
