Facilities Technician

Overview

Performs facilities duties in compliance with applicable procedures, regulations, and industry standards to support building/laboratory infrastructure and testing/manufacturing operations. Supports continuous improvement initiatives at the Saint Paul, MN facility.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Complete preventative maintenance of equipment, systems, and buildings
  • Complete non-routine (troubleshooting, repair) maintenance of equipment, systems, and buildings
  • Ensure mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems supporting the facility are maintained and functional, including but not limited to:
    1. HVAC
    2. Generators
    3. Electric boilers
    4. Water systems
    5. Waste systems
    6. Fire Protection
    7. Business Management Systems (BMS)
  • Respond to critical facility alarms/events during off business hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Coordinate services and schedules with vendors, subcontractors, and internal customers
  • Maintain critical parts inventory
  • Support implementation of capital projects
  • Comply with all safety, security, and regulatory protocols

Qualifications

Experience / Education  

  • 1-2 years’ of relevant experience, preferably in a regulated industry
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • Technical certification in Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC/R
  • Boiler license preferred, Special, Class C, or higher
  • Working knowledge of city, state, and federal codes, requirements and guidelines

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects of varying scope
  • Ability to work with a customer focus mindset (internal and external)
  • Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook) 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an office environment with variable noise conditions
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting with potential exposure to animals, biohazards, and chemicals
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
  • Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in variable temperatures: high to freezing
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
