Director, Bioinformatics, Oligonucleotide Therapeutics

Overview

We are seeking a talented and experienced Director-level bioinformatics scientist to lead and support bioinformatics work directed towards oligonucleotide, especially siRNA and ASO, therapeutics R&D.

 

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain an industry-standard pipeline to design oligonucleotide sequences for the dual purposes of drug target validation and therapeutics development
  • Analyze internal and external transcriptomic data to characterize the gene expression landscape of complex tissues and disease models
  • Use and develop state-of-the-art analysis and visualization tools to gain insight into cell-type efficacy, target specificity and off-target effects
  • Leverage external gene expression datasets to identify molecular signatures, expression modules, and disease biology for chosen human indications
  • Collaborate with biologists, chemists and scientists in the global WuXi AppTec community, presenting computational analyses results to interdisciplinary teams of scientists and providing scientific leadership in transcriptomics
  • Performs job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, and WuXi AppTec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience / Education       

  • A PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology or related fields, with 5+ years of related industry experience
  • Solid understanding of RNAi biology. Significant experience in RNAi sequence selection and filtration. Both academic and industrial experiences matter, some industrial experience preferred
  • Experience in NGS analysis, especially RNA-seq

 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • scRNA-seq experience preferred but not required
  • In-depth understanding of genome annotation, mastery of genome informatics analyses, and extensive familiarity with genome sequence databases
  • Expert-level skills in scientific programing languages (python or R)
  • Proteomics experience is a plus, but not required
  • Strong desire to outperform, a self-starter who is able to carry out independent research activities with minimal supervision
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced global environment
  • Proficient in Oral & Written communication skills
  • Need to be able to read, write and understand English
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook)

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in an office environment with minimal noise conditions
  • Ability to stand /Sit/walk for long periods of time
  • Clarity of Vision
